Fees and charges

We have a simple way of charging for our Personal Current Account:

  1. A single flat fee of €6 per month for maintaining the account.
  2. No individual charges for a range of current account transactions and services. There are a small number of services that you may be charged for, such as using your debit card for transactions in a foreign currency. Overdrafts

Fees

An overdraft facility fee of €30 applies on negotiation and annual renewal.

(Currently these charges do not apply to customers with a Graduate or Golden Years Current Account).

Rates

The current variable standard overdraft interest rate (including the overdraft facility fee) is 13.25% (Annual Percentage Rate of Charge (APRC) 16.2%. The rate quoted is based on a representative example of €1,500 over a 12 month period. Total cost of credit is €243.02. Variable rates correct as at 23rd November 2020 and are subject to change.

If your account is overdrawn, interest is charged on the full overdrawn balance, regardless of whether the overdraft is within an agreed overdraft limit or there is an unauthorised overdraft. Lending criteria, terms and conditions apply. Applicants must be over the age of 18 years old.

Why do we offer students more? It’s simple. Because in ten years’ time, you’ll still be one of our customers. You can start taking more control of your life and your money. With your own bank account you can save up for something big or spend a little whenever you want – it’s up to you.

What you get with a 2nd Level Current Account

    • An ATM card will allow you get cash at over 2,000 cash machines around Ireland. Most Bank of Ireland ATM’s will allow you to check your balance to see how much money you have in your account. We’ll also pay the annual Government Stamp Duty on your Bank of Ireland ATM card (€2.50 per year) or your Bank of Ireland Debit card (up to €5 per year). If we change this at any time in the future, we will tell you beforehand (or publish a notice).
    • If you are aged 14 years old or over you are eligible to apply for a Bank of Ireland Debit card. If you are under 18, we will need your parent or guardian to give us consent and indemnity before we process your application. With a Debit Card, you can shop and pay for your purchases directly from your 2nd level student current account, and it also saves you carrying cash around, so it’s perfect for school trips abroad. It’s quick, easy and a better way to pay.
    • You can use your Debit card at home and abroad to withdraw cash from ATMs and pay for goods and services. However there may be charges for using your Debit card abroad, so please check our Schedule of Fees & Charges brochure.
    • Online banking, Mobile Banking and Telephone banking – bank whenever you want, wherever you want.
    • Access to a comprehensive ATM and Branch network

How did we calculate this €8,700 amount?

€8,700 is based on 3% of €290,000 which is the average mortgage switched to Bank of Ireland in the 12 months to February 2021, with 2% cashback paid on drawdown, and the remaining 1% cashback paid after five years. To qualify for Graduate Banking you must have graduated from full-time third level education in the last three years. When applying for any of the listed products you must advise that you are a Graduate in order to avail of the offers. Graduate Banking and associated benefits are valid for a period of one year from the date you avail of the Graduate Package. The Graduate Package is subject to terms and conditions. Some additional charges may apply.

With a Graduate Current Account, there are no fees for maintaining the account and no individual transaction charges for a range of current account fees and service charges. There are a small number of services that you may be charged for, such as using your debit card for transactions in a foreign currency. There is currently no overdraft facility fee for Graduate Accounts.

Rates

The current variable overdraft interest rate for the Graduate Current Account is 9.4% (Annual Percentage Rate of Charge (APRC) 9.7%). The rate quoted is based on a representative example of €1,500 over a 12 month period. Total cost of credit is €146.05. Variable rates correct as at 23rd November 2020 and are subject to change.

If your account is overdrawn, interest is charged on the full overdrawn balance, regardless of whether the overdraft is within an agreed overdraft limit or there is an unauthorised overdraft. Lending criteria, terms and conditions apply. Applicants must be over the age of 18 years old.

Loans

  • Borrow from €2,000 to €5,000 at 5.0% APR variable. Amounts above €5,000 available at alternative rates.1
  • Defer your first three monthly repayments (optional, only if your loan is repaid monthly). By deferring the first three monthly repayments you will pay more than if you paid over the standard term
  • The graduate loan is only available to Bank of Ireland graduate current account holders.

APR stands for Annual Percentage Rate

Lending criteria, terms and conditions apply. Applicants must be 18 or over. Applicants must be resident in the Republic of Ireland. Generally, student applicants should be undertaking a full time course in a recognised 3rd level college in the Republic of Ireland. Only Bank of Ireland customers can apply.

The repayments on a student loan of €5,000 over a 60 month period are €94.20 per month at 4.95% variable (Annual Percentage Rate of Charge (APRC) 5.0%). Total amount repayable is €5,652.00. Total cost of credit is €652.00. Variable rates correct as at the 30th June 2020 and are subject to change.
